I Graduated!

1 min read
I have a bachelor's degree in Astrophysics now! Yay!

That said, I should have more time for art for the next six months, as long as I don't drown in all the papers I have to grade. :D

My old hard drive has still not been recovered, but that's ok. I'll get it done eventually, and in the meantime there's plenty of stuff I can do by hand (read: dragon drawings) and on my laptop. I recently did some ink painting that turned out pretty great (3 pieces total, 4 if you count a silly one) - I'll scan and upload them soon.

In other news, I spent October through December playing Pokemon X and completing the Pokedex. Yup, I did it. BOW TO ME FOR I AM A POKEMON MASTER. (Now I'm playing Y.) Also, I'm getting pretty sick of snow. Seriously. The high for tomorrow is 4 degrees (Fahrenheit). Ewwwww.

That's about it.

Fare thee well,

-Ammy

The last time I made a journal entry it was September or so, and a lot has happened since then, so I figured now was a good time to make a new post.

First of all - sadly, my hard drive's data recovery hasn't been completed yet, so it will still be a while before I can put up any of the stuff I was working on before my hard drive died. :/ I'm not sure how much longer it will take, but it'll happen, no worries.

Second of all, I was completely unaware until two days ago that my Sonnet in Lolspeak had been selected as a Daily Deviation on April 1. I was floored when I saw all the notifications. It's a huge honor for me - I've never had this kind of attention on dA before, and it has humbled me greatly. Thank you all for your kind comments and favorites!

Third of all, life stuff. This semester has been ridiculously busy (18 credits and writing my honors thesis while keeping up with my service organization... whew!), which is why I haven't been on dA since January or so. I've been having a TON of fun though, despite being so busy. I've learned so much this semester and even had the honor of going to the Apache Point Observatory with my classmates to take data on a telescope as large as a school bus. (When we were done taking data, we put an eyepiece on it - I saw things that night that no one else in the world will ever see. It was incredible. And for the record, yes, there are colors in space. Beautiful brilliant colors, and some colors that you would never expect to see in space. It was a life-changing experience. We looked at Saturn, the Whirlpool Galaxy, the Sombrero Galaxy, the planetary nebula called Jupiter's Ghost, and the Hercules globular cluster.) We also toured the National Solar Observatory, saw the Sloan telescope, and went to the Very Large Array. (While we were at the VLA we got to climb up on one of the dishes and walk on it!) The data we got was gorgeous, too, and we're in the process of analyzing it now. It was really an incredible trip. Aside from the trip, it's been the usual grind of classes and homework and research, but as I get closer to graduating (in December) I realize that I really love this lifestyle.

Interjection here - I'd like to publicly wish my wonderful sister Ash a ridiculously happy 22nd birthday (April 19th)! She's graduating in three weeks, too. I can't believe how quickly time has passed.

Lastly - art. I have two things in the works right now. I started them toward the beginning of the semester and had to put them on hold due to being so busy, but once my classes are over (in two weeks) I'll have plenty of time to finish them up and upload them. I haven't done as much writing recently because every time I open a word processor I've had to use it to write a proposal, lab, or paper. Summer will also afford a better opportunity to get back to writing, I expect.

Hope you're all doing great! I'll end this post here because I have to rush off to a meeting now.

Fare thee well,

-Ammy

So, um...

My hard drive died sometime in September. /sobs forever/

Fortunately, I know a certain awesome someone who is highly skilled at data recovery who has offered to get all my stuff back for me, so I haven't truly lost everything. Unfortunately, I can't work on any of the works in progress I had on my main computer. (I've been using my little laptop for the past two months for school, and it's been great for that, but it doesn't have the tools I need for art nor writing since my written works are all Pages documents.)

Anyway, that's why I haven't been on in a while. I guess it might be a good thing, considering how hectic my classes and whatnot are. (They've been going really well, actually. It's been a good semester so far.)

I'll post an update when I get my data back. In the meantime, I'll just be going along through the semester like I have been.

Fare thee well,
-Ammy

HOLY CRAP DOES THIS AWESOME NEBULA SKIN WORK ON HERE?! ASDFGHJKL; <3 AMAZING!

I wish I had free Premium Membership ALL the time. XD;;

So I guess while I'm writing I'll give everyone an update on my life or whatever. I haven't been on here because I've been exceedingly busy. Already I've been barraged by homework assignments due soon, and it's only the third day of the semester. That's because I'm taking 19 credit hours: Astrophysics II, Classical Mechanics and Mathematical Methods II, Applied Calculus III (I have already taken Calc 3, but I'm retaking it in the Applied Math department rather than the Math department because I feel I can learn new things about the subject in this version of the class), Black Holes (an elective :D), STEP I (an education course that will involve me going to elementary schools and teaching science lessons there), Computational Techniques (in which I will be writing programs pertaining to astrophysics), Concert Band, and Basketball Band (which also requires me to go to every home basketball game to perform). Whew! So I have a lot of homework so far and an audition tomorrow. I am also now an officer within my fraternity, so I'll be doing a lot of planning and organizing an executing of activities aimed at improving the musicianship of my chapter; and I will be doing research on galaxy clusters too, which is AWESOME~ but will likely destroy any free time I would've had left. ^__^;;

So all in all, I will continue to be very busy, but it should be very fun. (And probably very stressful. But also fun.)

Fare thee well,

-Ammy

I HAVE WAY TOO MANY MESSAGES

HOLY FLYING BUTTER SANDWICHES

This is what I get for not getting on here in a whole month and a half...

I HAD OVER TEN THOUSAND MESSAGES.

NOT JUST OVER NINE THOUSAND, OVER TEN THOUSAND.

:iconsobplz:

I've managed to get rid of about 4/5 of them, but that still leaves me with 2,838.

So I may not get through all the recent (as in, submitted within the past two months) deviations of everyone any time soon...

I'M SORRY OKAY

I'VE JUST BEEN REALLY BUSY

Speaking of which, I'll probably be starting actual astrophysics RESEARCH very soon. :D :D :D Yup, research, not just the normal classes and stuff. Actively contributing to the world's body of scientific knowledge. I'm pretty darn excited to say the least. But it means my responsibilities this semester will be pretty time-consuming.

So yeah, busy...

But I'll try to look at everyone's new stuff, I swear!

(PLEASE DON'T HATE ME)

Also I'm really tired now and just kinda want to sleep so I'm going to bed.

Mmmmm, bed... TuT

Good night guys!
